Bourtzi used to be a castle, founded by the Gizi brothers who took over Skiathos in 1207. Around the Bourtzi Castle there used to be loopholes and two towers, from the left and the right of the gate. Inside the castle there was a church dedicated to Saint George. Bourtzi was destroyed in 1660 when Morozini took it over. Nowadays all that is left from the past is some remnants and the spots where Saint George’s church was located. Nowadays Bourtzi is a wonderful, all-green place to walk through. It offers great view to the city and many options to have fun and relax. In the municipal coffee shop, located inside Bourtzi, you can have your coffee or drink, enjoying the beautiful view to the city while taking part in the various cultural events that take place in Bourtzi.
